Opollo

4th floor apartment
/night

A Dalmatian wine, from Lissa (Vis Island, off the coast of Split). The city of origin is uncertain, but what is well known is how popular it was in the taverns of Trieste at the end of the 18th and at the beginning of the 19th Centuries (the ever in demand “bicer de dalmato” (or “glass of Dalmatian”). Then, all of a sudden, it disappeared. It is said that James Joyce would go to Il Trionfo restaurant, next to the Arco di Riccardo, to drink his favourite wine, Opollo di Lissa. We can presume he did this when living in Via Bramante (1912-15), coming down San Giusto hill and entering the Old Town from Via San Michele. (Source)
